So very pleased to be asked to be Production Manager for the Hostry again this year. The sheer range of acts and events, from theatre to dance, is always a challenge to fit in and ensure a quality spectacle. This year was no different and the attention to detail and quality ensured that the festival was a success. Events were well attended and it was a great showcase for Norfolk based talent. Some shows came from further afield but all enjoyed the experience and all audiences went away happy. I had to keep my wits about me, performing lighting design / operation, AV support and also rigging supervisor alongside my main role but when everyone works together to ensure a high calibre show or shows it's all worth it. Thanks to everyone involved, no matter how small your input, it couldn't happen with out you.

It was my pleasure (As part of the Hostry Festival 2017) to welcome Julian Lloyd Webber to the Blake Theatre and listen to his rousing remarks on the state of Music tuition and the future thereof. It was an incredible showcase of youth talent from the region. A great night was had by all and a successful opening to a week of culture, theatre and entertainment. A big thank you to Xenia Horne @SuffolkHarpist for making it all possible.
Technical and Dress rehearsal for "Frost on the Rose" today. Amazing performances from the cast, Brilliant director and it will be a great show. Tickets are available from http://www.greathalltheatre.org.uk/ I'm pleased that the new equipment is working well and this show marks the completion of my Sound / Lighting upgrade for them.
To Celebrate the 700 years of the Freemen of Norwich, the tradition of the "Great Feast" was re introduced this year. Chair Nigel Back opened the proceedings and welcomed the Freemen and their guests. One family of Freemen came all the way from the USA to take part. It was an event full of pomp, ceremony and tradition. One of the bigger projects that I have been working on recently is the Marketing for the Keep Giving campaign. People can now adopt artefacts from the Castle Museum and receive (amongst other things) a shiny certificate. It's been a real privilege to work with the knowledgable, friendly and amazing people at the Norfolk Museums Service. Snap was adopted as the phone lines opened and many other curios are being adopted as we speak. If you want to take a look at my hard work or even adopt an object yourself the link is here. If you want to know more about the keep restoration project (The Gateway to Medieval England), details can be found here. Promotional video is here. With camera in hand I made my way to the Time and Tide museum at Great Yarmouth where Coleman Opticians were planning a big reveal of their County Hare "Haremit". It was a grand event, wonderful weather, some great speeches by the Coleman Team, Break as well as the Time and Tide people. Keep an eye out for the GoGoHares, on the streets 2018 to celebrate 50 years of Break Charity. I was lucky enough to bump into Angela Sykes at the Diss Corn Hall recently and had a tour around the new renovations. It's a fabulous space and I was very impressed. I managed to help them out on their Jazz night and the Chris Ingham Trio, Chris Ingham (piano), George Double (drums) and Owen Morgan (double bass) were amazing. Jazz and soul maestro Snake Davis lead the trio on this evening and he was a complete gentleman, very gracious with the technical issues that I was battling with, as were the band. A wonderful evening with wonderful people. Thank you all. https://www.thecornhall.co.uk/
As my good friend Jo Berry is indisposed I was asked to run the Murder Mystery on the North Norfolk Railway for Dreamstone... Little did I know it had a "Rocky Horror theme" Thanks to Burtie Welland The cast were amazing, the weather fine and the audience well and truly "up for it". It was an exceptional night and I was very proud of my team. It's the summer holidays for conference and the Royal Opera House alike (like many theatres) and therefore slow in terms of work for me. I was invited down to Kings Place Music Foundation for some training and a summer party... It seemed rude to decline :) The wet weather gave in to beautiful sunshine and it was a lovely day looking out over the Battlebridge Basin on the Regent's canal. A wander at lunchtime around Granary Square and I was amazed at how this has become a meeting place of people! Cubbitt Square had live music, Familes played in the fountains and people queued around the block to get into Dishoom! I missed The Kerb by minutes but did find an enthusiastic Acoustic guitar player on the "Word on the water" barge. |
