An incredible experience

Well, opening night came and went... But what an experience! I've never seen a standing ovation like it at the Maddermarket Theatre. People are dancing in the isles, singing and dancing as they leave and everyone saying that they have never seen anything like it. Even hearing people gasp as they enter the theatre gives me a certain satisfaction. But it's the humble attitude of the amazing cast, crew and band that are the highlight for me. Not a diva amongst them just a whole group of talented people coming together to support and encourage each other. You have all been an absolute pleasure to work with and I just want this to go on and on. Live long and prospero you great bunch of people. Many thanks to Peter Beck for putting this incredible show together.

Sound Engineering

7 piece band, sound effect feed, 3 50" screens and 11 radio mics. What could possibly go wrong? :) The tech for "Return to the forbidden planet" is really coming together as we complete our last week. Dress rehearsal time and it's getting very exciting! I love seeing a show comes together and this one really is. It's been an amazing journey.  I so glad that Stage Manager Karen Davies is back and rearing to go, even Chris Ryan popped in to say "Hi". Theatre families, they are the best.

Some further green screen work for "Return to the Forbidden Planet" today. The show goes up in little under two weeks http://maddermarket.co.uk/production/view/264 The team have worked hard on this and it was a joy to work with them again. Set construction starts tomorrow and the tech arrives shortly afterwards. My thoughts however are with our Stage Manager who has suffered a bereavement. I know that she's being so very brave but this will hurt a lot. Hugs and big love amazing lady xx

Third Sound Engineer job in three days and I'm not flagging yet. :) Jazz tonight with the Gabrielle Ducomble Quartet. What a wonderful team! So humble and grateful it was a real pleasure to work with them all. Gabrielle Ducomble (vocals), Dan Teper (accordian), Nicolas Meier (guitar) and Nick Kacal (bass). I cabled and programmed up the board and was very impressed by the sound check. This was not what I was expecting at all. And when Gabrielle took the stage before a large and appreciative audience wearing a beautiful green satin dress I was captivated. Song after beautiful song played forth and I loved everyone, Gabrielle told a story with each track and then stayed late to sign autographs and chat with fans. I truly memorable experience. They were also very complimentary about my sound mix but modesty forbids ;-)  Heartfelt thanks to Gabrielle and the team. Thank you!

Duty Sound Tech for Genesis G2 at the Maddermarket Theatre tonight and after their sell out performance last year they are back for a second helping! A massive audience again tonight and no technical hitches this time. The band were their normal high standard and the audience gave a standing ovation. A very good night.

Derek Acorah

It's been a long time since I saw Derek Acorah and I remember him well from the days on "Most haunted". It's been a difficult show to sell but on the night he brought with him a dedicated band of followers and they were excited to see him. I chatted with him before the show and he was kind, unassuming and gentle. He took the stage as a humble man and performed his act with passion and feeling. It was a good night, very entertaining and people left with a positive feeling and a smile on their faces. I worked the sound desk and controlled the radio mics for the audience participation.  Well done Derek, a good night.

Another day and a different hat. A chance conversation with Molly Naylor, comedy script writer and Director and I'm filling in for her sound recordist on set. It was a lovely relaxed day, excellent teamwork and everyone worked really well together. I was really impressed with everyone's professionalism and the respect for each others skills. The North bar on Fye Bridge were extremely helpful and cooperative and then the people of Norwich were on form at Eaton Park. I love my job, you can't beat the diversity and meeting great people is an added bonus.  Tomorrow I'm sound Engineer for Derek Acorah at the Maddermarket Theatre, but I bet he knew that before I did :)

If you want to be a part of Callback which is sure to be a great success then please check out Molly's fundraiser.

Norwich Mystery Plays

Today was the launch of the Norwich Mystery Plays project. The Mystery (or Mysterium) plays were originally bible stories brought to life by the guilds and trades people of the time (on behalf of the church) to reach a wider audience. These tales became more and more bawdy until eventually the Pope declared that they were nothing to do with the church. This is the birthplace of theatre in the UK. Following from successes in York, Norwich have their own "Grocers" play that Peter Beck is going to adapt for the People of Norwich. Our focus is families and children (so family friendly) and encouraging young people who may not have seen theatre before. We are going back to the origins and hoping to encourage a whole new audience to Theatre! No pressure then :-o

Pictured here are Peter Beck and Collie Mudie Head of learning at the Castle Museum. Guess who is stage managing! :)
